The Prince and Princess of Wales are stepping into a new chapter of their lives with a move to Forest Lodge, a historic Georgian residence that promises both space and privacy for their growing family. The relocation, confirmed by a Palace spokesperson, comes after a difficult 18 months marked by Princess Kate’s cancer treatment and major transitions within the Royal Family.
Since 2022, Prince William, Princess Kate, and their three children—Prince George (12), Princess Charlotte (10), and Prince Louis (7)—have lived in Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom home in Windsor Great Park. The cottage, chosen for its simplicity and modest size, allowed the family to enjoy a quieter, more down-to-earth lifestyle away from the spotlight of Kensington Palace.
Now, just a short distance away, Forest Lodge will become their permanent base. Conveniently located within Windsor Great Park, the new home ensures that the children will remain at Lambrook School and continue enjoying their peaceful upbringing outside central London.
A Historic Georgian Residence
Built in the 1770s and originally known as Holly Grove, Forest Lodge became part of the Crown Estate in 1829. The eight-bedroom Georgian-style house underwent a £1.5 million renovation in 2001, which showcased its ornate interiors including detailed plasterwork, stone features, and even a vaulted ceiling. More recently, the Royal Borough of Windsor approved minor updates to the property, such as window adjustments and fireplace restorations.
Unlike Adelaide Cottage, which featured intricate historic touches like gilded dolphins and a marble fireplace, Forest Lodge offers a far grander scale. The property includes a ballroom, tennis court, six chimneys, and eight bay windows, providing both elegance and ample space for family life.
A Forever Home for William and Kate
The move to Forest Lodge is more than a change of address—it’s a symbol of resilience. Over the last few years, the Royal Family has faced monumental changes, from the passing of Queen Elizabeth II to the coronation of King Charles III, as well as both the King and Princess Kate’s cancer battles.
According to royal sources, William and Kate see Forest Lodge as their “forever home,” a place where they intend to raise their children into adulthood. It is also likely to become the residence where they transition into their future roles as King and Queen of the United Kingdom.
Importantly, the Prince and Princess of Wales are funding the purchase and renovations privately, without relying on taxpayer money. The family is expected to officially settle into Forest Lodge by the end of 2025.
